A couple times I found a big church parking lot and just asked if I could park there for a while.
I liked driving at night. Unfortunately my truck wouldn't run on cruise control with the lights on...
Swift called me one time and told me I couldn't park where I was parked. They said it's not a place where trucks are allowed to park... the whole place was lined with trucks at least 40 of them. :(
It was a side street off the freeway in riverside county.
Another time I was parked at a casino with a bunch of trucks Cabazon off the 10 just before the west bound scales. Everybody parks there. (Trucks)
My wife came and brought me some groceries and exchange some clothes.
A car pulled up and took pictures and wrote some stuff down on paper. They pulled up next to me and said. "It must be a $&)&; to work for the devils team."
I have no idea what she was talking about but figured it wasn't important because no one ever called and said we have these pictures of you...
Walmart in Virginia one time I couldn't get into the parking lot they had a clearance rule and posted no trucks so I went to the back and stayed about 4' off the dock and parked it haha. No one ever came while I was there. Well, not to my spot at least.
I parked at a university one day in the construction parking and asked the construction workers and the superintendent of im ok for a while he said as long as your gone by bla bla. La I said no problem and thank you. Made sure I wasn't in the way of a transits line of site and parked it. Then went for a walk and spent my day in the city (I had time) then I got back before they closed the gates and said thanks.
If your not sure about a place just ask. Even ask your DM if it's like an empty field or something you know or like a place where it's just one truck but looks safe call your DM no worries.
Don't be afraid to call your DM. But don't be annoying.
Dm:
Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
