I think some do. If you need to remove bolt type seals the customer usually has what's needed to do the job. Also, you could get them cheaper at a Lowes or Home Depot.

Your consignee should be able to cut it.

Consignee:

The customer the freight is being delivered to. Also referred to as "the receiver". The shipper is the customer that is shipping the goods, the consignee is the customer receiving the goods.

The big bolt cutters don't work well for cable seals. I got a pair of wire cutters from Walmart for $15 that work really well for those.

On cable seals, I do one of the following;

1. Put snips in the loop, then pull the wire tight and force the snips up which usually cuts it. Using them to cut the braided wire usually takes a lot more since they're not real sharp. Or...

2. The Consignee has bolt cutters and we cut the piece the wire loops thru. This method is usually easier.

That's just my experience. I hope this helps.

I hate to admit it but I have never had wire cutters or bolt cutters on my truck.

I only had a hammer and gloves. I ran a very low budget operation.

For those thin metal seals- put on your gloves and put your fingers through the center of it. Pull up towards where you connect the two ends together and it will come undone with a quick jerk.

For those strong wire metal seals- stick the pointy end of your hammer through the center of the seal and loop it around the hammer. Now twist the hammer and it'll snap.

For bolt seals- to break these with a hammer is easy you just need to know the mechanics behind it. Basically, as you insert the top end into the bottom end it fits perfectly but it has a groove in it for the O-Ring. When you insert it the O-Ring is whats keeping it together nothing else. If the seal is covered in plastic then beat it with a hammer to take that plastic off. Done. Now gently pull the top end away from the bottom end and use the sharp point of a hammer between them and find that O-Ring. Once the O-Ring is found bend it with the sharp point of your hammer and the seal will break apart.

Takes about a minute if you know what you're doing. Yes, I have arrived at a reciever with a beer load that had a bolt seal and the reciever did not have the bolt cutters available so knowing this trick saved me.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

I'll echo sentiments here: items sold in the truck stops can nearly always be found cheaper at Wally World, Home Depot, or Lowes. Difficult to beat the truck stops' convenience though, since we're there so often. But if you can plan ahead you stand to save a lot of money.
