who wants to be an OO or be a company guy in a dying industry? With the advent of electric self driving computerized machines, we are true dinosaurs. Thanks for the memories!
Without a good understanding of what it would actually take to produce self-driving vehicles at scale it's easy to understand why so many people believe the hype. I happen to write software myself and I know that we are nowhere near anything of the sort. This is far from a dying industry, and the technology they claim is right around the corner would be true if the corner was 50 years or more away.
I've talked about this a lot. Look back over the history of promises we've had from the science and technology world and you'll realize we haven't come close to achieving many of the things we were assured of. Where are all of the robots running the world? Sure, there are some in manufacturing but that isn't what took away jobs in factories; cheap foreign labor did. Factories all over the world are still packed with people.
Heck, I'm still mowing my own lawn, vacuuming my own rugs, and doing my own laundry.
Where are the robots?
Where are the 3D holograms?
Why isn't most of my life taking place in virtual reality?
Where are the flying cars?
Why haven't we cured the common cold?
Why do I still grab a shovel and go pick up the dog poop in my yard?
Then you have to consider that planes and trains, which are 1,000 times easier to automate, are still operated by people.
Think about your daily use of technology. How often do the simplest things fail? Heck, I'm thrilled if my network keeps operating and my bluetooth device actually decides to connect on the first three tries.
Have no fear.........we're nowhere near being a dying industry. Read this article I wrote about it:
