So should we buy one before we graduate CDL school? Is it difficult to rely on just the paper maps? Money's a bit tight right now.
Don`t stress it. Use a road atlas until you can get a GPS. If you have maps on your phone you can also use it for the trip planning. It may not show you actual truck routes, but, it will do. I didn`t buy mine until I was given the key to my truck.

Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
