Not a state but Reno NV, has got to have the worst drivers anywhere. In a city with 250,000 population I have never gone through it without seeing at least 2 wrecks. I go through there daily too.
Turns out that determining the most dangerous places to drive depends upon the criteria you're using. If it's the number of deaths per capita, it's the really rural states that are at the top of the list like Wyoming and South Dakota. That's because in rural areas you have vehicles driving at much higher speeds than in cities, so that results in more deaths.
In highly congested states with high populations you have a lot of city traffic. Therefore you have a large number of accidents, but a relatively small number of deaths because of the slower speeds.

I'll take southern California over the DFW, always get into close calls there. I love west Texas, east Texas not so much haha, maybe just because west Texas reminds me of eastern New Mexico.
