I’m looking at Schneider and Werner also! Also Roehl and Melton seem to be good companies but I really know very little. I’m in the same boat as you!
Hello Mrs Gemini. Welcome to Trucking Truth!
I also worked a chalkboard for twelve years, then left the profession.
These days, most companies & other drivers treat the ladies right. (I know, I'm a guy, what do I know? ☺️)
The location concern isn't so important these days. It goes without saying that Texas is a big place. But all the major companies have terminals there. Houston? DFW? Amarillo? Van Horn?

This training program will get you ready for the CDL written test:
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
I work for CFI and we have a couple of terminals in TX. Most companies want more female drivers. CFI will train you at no cost to you. You can check them out on their site www.cfidrive.com. Good luck.

My company, Millis Transfer, has a terminal in Burleson and they have a training program out of there.

Hello everyone! I'm currently enrolled in The CDL School with a graduation date of 10/27/17. I woke up one day and decided that I no longer wanted to be a teacher inside of the classroom (for various reasons) and I wanted to drive the semi truck. I grew up in a semi. My dad drove for many years (drove for Mayflower and Schneider). So, I know that this job is not for an individual that is not comfortable driving, being alone for extended periods, being away from family for a few weeks, etc. I would like any advice that you would like to provide when it comes to picking a company that may be a little more "female friendly". I've been looking into Schneider, Werner, PAM, and TMI, but if there are other companies that have locations in TX and are okay for inexperienced drivers, please let me know. Thanks.
