57 and 24 are absolutely covered up with officers getting big trucks in all directions.
I passed through yesterday and for the life of me could not figure out what was going on. I got through unscathed, but a truck directly in front of me got nabbed. "In force" may be an understatement. It looks like an invasion, there's state troopers at every turnaround, at a large portion of the entry/exit ramps, and a truck pulled over almost every mile.
Also, I57 Northbound was shut down at exit 45 and a detour along a state road was set up. If it is still like that, expect ~2hrs of going absolutely nowhere.
There is potentially a silver lining to this...
Granted no one wants an inspection. If nothing else it burns time.
A clean inspection shines bright for both driver and company. In many cases it might even add to the safety bonus. Don't look upon this as a total negative, might be the total opposite. Be prepared for one of these at all times, we are professionals and part of our job.
Think positive...
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
I don't mind inspections. That is an xtra $50 bucks, lol. It takes maybe 30 mins of my time. I can handle making $100 an hour.
Even after reading this post yesterday, I still routed myself down 57 this morning on my way to my 90. In the 25 miles that I was on 57, I passed 18 state patrols with trucks pulled over.
After unloading, I came right back the same way and saw 11. Them boys were having fun today.
Looks like Illinois either wanted to get a jump on CVSA "Operation Safe Driver Week " or something. Either way, this upcoming week will have agencies across the US participating in this campaign, so everyone please be safe.
