There are a number of good units available and to some extent it comes down to personal preference.
My preference is Garmin. I have the 770 and love it. It is not perfect, but it is very good.
I have extensive experience with many models of Garmins, Rand McNally, Magellan, Tom-Tom, Co-Pilot, and some of the Android apps. For me, nothing tops the Garmin and only the Rand McNally comes close.
You will want to be sure that you choose a truck-specific unit, and set up your vehicle profile correctly. This will reduce the chance that the unit will put you on a route not open to trucks or run you into a low bridge. This tech is not perfect though, so you still need to watch the signs, etc. Some will maintain that you must check the paper atlas as well.
What is the best GPS device to get for truckers? I have heard that Rand McNally is good, but that the newest version has problems. Any recommendations?
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
I have the newest RM 740. Bought it in May when this model came out. Zero problems.
I got a refurbished RM TND 730. I got it off Amazon for $225.00. I love it.
