Thanks Deke That’s good to know. Okay, next step! I’ve decided to take my written test the day after Christmas, and also, go sign up for my CDL schooling. Yep! It’s really happening. 😊
That’s great news Curt! A lot of us “older” guys are on the 12 month schedule for physicals because of existing medical conditions and the meds were on to treat them. That’s not a big deal at all.....

Fantastic to read your updates.
Good luck Curt, looking forward to calling you ‘Driver’ soon!

Curt, have you looked into Paid CDL Training Programs? Why not get paid while you learn?

Curt I am in complete agreement with Big Scott. To his point take a look at this:
Why I Prefer Company Sponsored Training
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A Company-Sponsored Training Program is a school that is owned and operated by a trucking company.
The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.
If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.
Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.
I have been giving a lot of thought to trying this. I even tried to do this with Wil-Trans and they turned me down. I was thinking about Roehl. Even a friend at Church suggested them. He used to work for them. The only hesitation is probably a silly one. I don't want to drive through New York City, But if I'm going to be a big rigger, That fear has to go out the window.

Darrel Wilson bought his first tractor in 1980 at age 20, but, being too young to meet OTR age requirements, he leased the truck out and hired a driver.
Through growth and acquisition, Wil-Trans now employs over 200 drivers, and has a long-standing partnership with Prime, Inc. to haul their refrigerated freight. The family of businesses also includes Jim Palmer Trucking and O & S Trucking.
Hey All, I took my CLP tests yesterday and passed all three. :-) I will add Hazmat soon. Thought I would share the good news. I am now enrolled in CDL School. Thanks for all the encouragement.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations
Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.
Hey congrats!
