Hey all on the forum, I am still doing some research on CDL schools by companies that have them. I have been ruled out for a reason unknown by TMC, recruiter states it could just be location right now but it did not say from what she told me on my application. I am a little disappointed since that was my first choice but I am not giving up. I have contacted Wil-Trans , and looking into Millis Transfer as well right now and going to try and compare a few others. I was going to possibly check into Roehl, but I haven't decided yet. Does anyone have any suggestions on where they went to school or worked for to give me some helpful tips on what the good and bad on them. I know that each have their good and bad like anything else, it's going to be mostly about who is going to work best for me but having as much info as I can is going to help in that decision. Thanks

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

SAP:

Substance Abuse Professional

The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.

Wil-Trans:

Darrel Wilson bought his first tractor in 1980 at age 20, but, being too young to meet OTR age requirements, he leased the truck out and hired a driver.

Through growth and acquisition, Wil-Trans now employs over 200 drivers, and has a long-standing partnership with Prime, Inc. to haul their refrigerated freight. The family of businesses also includes Jim Palmer Trucking and O & S Trucking.

I'm going with Prime after reading Rainy's account and doing some research. Seems like a great training program.

I am currently in school at Crowder College in Neosho, MO. The schooling is paid for by CFI. You in exchange need to drive for them for one year. If you would like more info., I have a diary in the CDL Diaries section on this site.

As you may know, I trained and drive for CFI. I have been solo for about seven months now. I am very happy with CFI and the way I am treated. We have plenty of miles and a very new fleet. Here is a link to my CFI Training Diary. I have also posted pics of my pay. From mid May through December 2017, I grossed a little over $24,000.00. For me that's great money. My last two weeks I had a gross of just over $1000.00 each. CFI may not be the highest paying company, but you can get all the miles you can drive. I have also built up just over five PTO days. Needless to say, I am a totaly biased fan.
