Austin, that looks like a photo of a company terminal shower. Yes it's free, yes you should clean up after yourself, though some of the lazier drivers skip that step. (Usually there is also a cleaning crew that does their job to keep the place generally clean.)

Keep this in mind: a company will provide showers. Even within the same company the quality varies. I'm with Swift and have seen different levels of "clean".

Truck stop chains pride theirselves in keeping their showers "hotel clean" for their customers. As you get into the business, you'll learn how easy it is to get a free shower at the truck stop.

Hey Errol V., when you say we should clean up after ourselves when using public showers, what exactly does that mean. We all have different definitions of what clean means. I'm asking for future reference since this is all new to me.

No, you don't need to wipe down the walls, but pick up all your stuff, put the trash in the trash can. Rinse out the sink if need be. That's all. Company showers are usually gone over once or twice a day. Truck stop showers are cleaned up 100% after each customer.

At truck stop places, I usually leave a few dollar bills on the sink as a thank you for a clean room.

Thanks for the advice & totally will take your advice to heart. I know what it feels like when someone shows their appreciation with money. I will definitely remember to leave my few bucks of appreciation also.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

I once showered at one of the circular travel centers along I-80 in Ohio… The room appeared clean, and was dry, the door locked, the water was hot, the shower was free, and I was very grateful.

I'm guessing you're talking about the awesome travel plazas on the Ohio Turnpike, which offers a real Driver's Lounge and free showers. I don't travel across there often, but I love them for 10 hour breaks when I do and it's time to shut down.

Yes Susan, those are the ones.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I've not paid for a shower since I started driving and I shower daily. My reward card is maxed out and I add 1-2 per day lol

I route plan pretty well, if I know I won't be shutdown at a TA/Petro I take my mandatory 30 after fueling and shower off.
