That's supposed to be an animated gif of a dog chasing its tail.
I'm younger than almost everyone else I see out on the road.
And I'm lazy for the same reason that a cat catches mice a few hours a day and sleeps the rest.
I like cats... they like me too!
Trucking is a job where the hiring is rapid, they don't care if you wear a suit, you don't need to charm customers, and the standards are extremely low. I figure in this swamp-mess (is that a word? well, it is now!)
Did you really just come to a trucking forum and insult every professional driver while admitting to having not a poor work ethic, but no work ethic. And additionally admitting you know nothing about leasing, yet want to do it.
I say go for it! You already know so much and are so superior to the rest of us, im not sure why you asked any of us who of extremely low standards.

Your sarcasm was coming through as I read it, Rainy. But then again, for some people you need to draw pictures.

I guess it depends on your upbringing slightly. My parents escaped the USSR and communism and came to America. They had a handful of children to look after, barely spoke English and were starting fresh under all those circumstances.
My dad went door to door begging for a job even if it meant scrubbing toilets, he sacrificed so much and has never been on a vacation for the betterment of his children and family. We grew up extremely poor, barely getting by.
Perhaps thats why I was mowing lawns and passing out flyers at age 14, working through school, and working 2 jobs at age 19.
You're not going to get anywhere in life being lazy. You're blessed in my eyes if you never had to grow up at an early age. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Folks like to complain but I'm just happy that I'm in this great country where I can read my Bible without fear of losing my life. Perhaps if you'd hear some of his stories it would light a fire under your butt and you'd become self-motivated.

I wasn't going to post since I'm not a trucker and Rainy D called you out already for what bothered me, which is that you showed up at a trucking forum to basically insult everyone. As a guest in someone's home you should show a little respect. On the other hand, I do believe you're a truck driver, so you have some legitimacy in doing that.
But as someone who was in education at one point I've got to comment. You know, you're not a teacher not because you voted for Trump or because you're a Christian. I can guarantee you it's because you were a terrible teacher. How do I know that? You come in here bragging that you're lazy and don't want to work hard. You don't think anyone notices that? You only like trucking because you believe you don't do anything but go straight and avoid accidents. Again, you don't think anyone notices this attitude? You're pointing the finger at everyone but yourself. You're not wrong that education's politically sensitive. And if you're obsessed with politics, which you seem to be since you can't stop bringing it up, then trucking may be better suited for you. But I'll tell you that as a former teacher, and now someone who works for a municipality, I come across folks with various political and religious beliefs and it's never, ever a problem. It only is if you make it one. So I guess what happened is that you couldn't hack it and started to blame your personal beliefs for it. And there's really no shame in not being able to hack it in education--like trucking (though not as bad), the turnover's brutal.
I also think it's strange that you equated motor vehicle accidents with hitting a student. That you ever thought of hitting a student at all, frankly. Truckers get in accidents. It happens. Teachers don't hit students. But G-Town pointed out that this story where your friend got into multiple accidents is probably BS.
You really don't know what you're talking about in your posts. I don't know of any PhD students spending 10 years "paying money" to obtain their degrees. I run with a pretty educated crowd, several PhDs, and none of them paid for their degrees and all of them are employed at universities. Not all of them are in tenure-line positions, this is true, but they're all employed full-time and, again, none of them "paid" for their degrees and none of them did it in ten years. If you pay for a PhD then you did it wrong. Those positions are almost always funded. You remember the big debate surrounding the latest tax bill, that the government was going to tax not only stipends but also fellowships and tuition remissions? Enough said. And if your friend (assuming he's real--you have lots of convenient friends to fill gaps in your stories) can't find a job as a math teacher, then he too must be terrible. You can walk into almost any school with a math background and get hired.
It also doesn't make sense to me why you keep comparing teaching to trucking. They are completely different industries. Why would teachers receive bonuses? They're almost always unionized workers. No bonuses, period. And, yes, you have job interviews. That's not unique to education. Let's be real here. Truckers work hard for their money, contrary to what you seem to believe. They have questionable job security and tremendous wage stagnation. You don't seem to understand wage stagnation since you keep claiming that you can make more money now as a trucker than as a beginning teacher or graduate student, as if that would be your pay for the rest of your life (not to mention all of the union benefits that come with teaching). As someone from a blue-collar background who's seen first hand a wide-range of professions, I think it's ludicrous to act like truckers have it better than teachers. What you mean to say, I hope, is that they're very DIFFERENT professions, and they should not really be compared at all, and that you prefer the trucking to the education profession.
With that said, you're right, education's a lot of work. It should be, to keep whiners like you out of the classroom. Why would anyone want you educating his/her child? Once again you admit to having basically no work ethic!
And, yes, I wrote his/her.
IMO, you don't need advice on how to operate a part-time gravy train. You need advice on growing up.

I've been following this post with great interest. It has been a good read and provoked a lot of thought about different theories and life styles. Ive been pondering what I could add to the conversation then the insults started flying in the direction of the OP.
I seriously don't beleive for a second that NE means any insult or injury in stating his opinions. And by sticking to his guns and not caving in to peer pressure, people are becoming offended. Folks, in my humble opinion, that is the biggest social problem we face in this great country.... people are too quick to become offended over other peoples thoughts & ideas. I hate to say it, but some of the anger filled name calling responses have been far more offensive than anything NE has said yet.

I get what you are saying... However NE did compare this industry to a swamp. Sounds rather deliberate to me. Do you work in a swamp with swamp dwellers driving swamp buggys? Rhetorical.
Although nothing the OP has written has insulted me personally; he is entitled to conduct his business as he sees fit and frankly I don't care what he says to me or the other experienced folks on here. However with one basic exception; we are in a position to influence Newbies, thus I take issue with a lot of what he has posted unless of course someone comes on here asking how they can non-chalantly enter the industry and aspire to the highest levels of mediocrity and still keep their job. In my association with this forum I've yet to see that. Most of us strive for excellence and do not settle for "below average" and at times some of us take offense to those who do not. Which to your point has occurred to some extent in this thread.
Most hardworking Americans definitely take offense whenever someone promotes an ambivalent approach to their jobs; systematically attempting to milk the system for all it's worth, and do as little as possible just to get by. It causes anger and animosity when someone mocks another's value system and sense of purpose.
Although I do consider the source in this case, because NE's approach to his job, work ethic and perceived lack of professionalism have zero influence on me personally. Although a selfish view, guys like him make it easier for me to make money. Only makes me angry when the line is crossed promoting such an attitude on this forum, potentially influencing less experienced folks to buy-into it. You saw how I replied to him...I stand by that.
For anyone trying to enter this industry, most of the time lazy drivers don't make it for long because they undermine and erode a key performance criteria for all commercial carriers; "driver and truck utilization". Lazy drivers lose their employers and their dispatchers money...simple economic concept, so do not expect them to tolerate it for long. They won't.
That said; I do think once NE has a year of experience, if he looks hard enough and in the right places he might find a job enabling him to work 4 and take 3 off. Likely on a Dedicated Account or for a private carrier that can plan using some part time drivers mixed with full timers.

Wow guys I said the replies would flood in but wow. I wonder just young this guy is? Also why are you so lazy? If I was able to live of 5, 6 or 700 and that's it, I'd work extra hard and double that. Save up a ton of money and be set up nicely. BTW no need for political trash in here.
