if we all could just stop blaming and making excuses, the world would truly be a much better place to be in!
That is so true! One thing I've always found with people who tend to be successful at anything they do is they truly believe deep down that they are the master of their own destiny. They don't make excuses, they don't blame others, and they don't wine and cry when things don't come easy.
My dad used to always say, "When the goin gets tough, the tough get goin" and my parents both really instilled in me the idea that I could do anything I set my mind to. They never said, "If other people don't screw it up for you" or "If you're lucky" or anything of the sort. They made it clear that it was up to me to make things happen for myself.
Trucking is for people that think that way. You're not going to get far in this business if you're looking for excuses or someone to blame for things because there's always going to be a million challenges that stand between you and your goals out there. You're either the type that stays strong and faces those challenges head on or you're going to crumble under the relentless pressure of everyday life on the road.
I always try to remind people that trucking companies all make money the same way - keeping those wheels turning. If you're the type of driver that works hard and gets the job done safely day in and day out then you're the type that's going to make that company money and they're going to do everything they can to keep you rollin. That's how they stay in business - they put the biggest burden on their best drivers and count on them to keep their most important customers happy.
So when people say things like "Company ABC is a terrible company" I always think "Not for their best drivers it's not!"
