I just finished this article that was sent to my email today and could not agree more with Old School and his explanation on all the complaints of the said person that sent the email. I mean really, come on MAN!? Did you really read any of the articles and suggestions on this site? You apparently are offended easily and are one of the negative people that keep the negative talk in trucking. I am new and have not yet started school, but will be this month and I am going to do everything I can to work my Ass off to be a great driver by applying the knowledge I have gained from this site and the many helpful folks here. Everyone that does well isn't afraid to work hard and get there hands dirty to make a great living and be prosperous in the trucking industry. I cannot say enough about this site and the fact that the info here is provided free of charge when it doesn't have to be is amazing. That is a sign of someone that really cares about the information that people find.

The lone article (maybe just the headline) that pops into my mind that I took exception with is "When's the best time to become and owner operator? Never" At the twelve year point I'd say - "Oh that is just flat out wrong IMO" - and have some really hard to overcome arguments about our path.

There's no sense in arguing about it. If you own a truck then prove to us you're making a killing with it. That would end the argument, wouldn't it?

Owner Operator:

An owner-operator is a driver who either owns or leases the truck they are driving. A self-employed driver.

Ok my 2 cents here: Brett, I have been a member of this forum for almost a year now and I have not once seen anything where we have been negative to any drivers in here. Y'all have shown tough love to people before but that wasnt negative, y'all were just tryin to help and motivate us. I truly dont know if there is anyone out there more proud to be a member of this forum than me. If it wasnt for y'all motivatin me to stick with things, I might not have made it through NADTA and reaquired my CDL and wouldn't be trainin our future drivers the CRST and TruckinTruth way. I have said it a million times before, I owe y'all so much for my success out here it's crazy.

My conclusion and hypothesis here:

That person that sent that email is obviously a troll to legendary proportions. My guess is its Kash or the original Patrick y'all have talked about before back to start trouble. I might be right and then again I might be wrong. Y'all are my true best friends here so far and this person messes with y'all, then they just messed with fire. I wish I could email this person and put him/her in their place. I sure would in yalls honor. 😁

I love y'all and thanks again for everything. 😁

I am sitting in Springfield, MO with my CLP in hand on the first try because of the help, advice & guidance of all the information that was provided to me from the blogs, diaries & general discussion topics this site provides to us rookies free, blunt & unvarnished. The naysayers will always have their heads stuck in their own sandboxes cause of all the reasons that have been covered here ad nauseum. Thank you thank you thank you to each & everyone of you for you wisdom, criticism & encouragement.

CLP:

Commercial Learner's Permit

Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.

I am guessing that the email was written while sitting at a table in the rat's nest of his favorite terminal. I found this site as I was preparing to re-enter the industry and you know what I found? I found a site that doesn't put you down for working at Swift, CRST, CR England, or any other mega carrier. Nor does this site bash the mega carriers. This site provides the disinfectant that is badly needed in this industry. It shines light on how to be successful regardless of what company you are at.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Speaking as someone who used to work in HR for local government, I'd rather have fewer applicants, with a high percentage of becoming a successful hire, than I would to have tons of applicants with a low success rate.

Just my two cents from somebody currently going through the recruiting process.

Stay safe out there everybody! Colin K.

I agree with Colin about hiring, but unfortunately there is too much freight to be moved. Someone mentioned how information is power, the truth is how one use that information makes it powerful. This site puts out alot of information for free. It is really up to the individual reader to determine how they will interpret and use the info given. I might not agree with everything written but this the best place to get insight on becoming a trucker.

When I retired from L.E, I was told that I'm still a rookie because you are always still learning. I got 6 months solo as OTD and love coming to this site for pointers.

Thanks Brett and the rest of you old school rookies.
