Also, can I get on the waiting list for a truck as soon as my trainer drops me off in Springfield, or do I need to complete the SIM lab, cbt's and paperwork first? As a company driver, how much leeway do you get with the truck you get, such as preferences etc?
No, you are not eligible for a truck until you complete the CBT and SIms therefore you cannot just sign up for a truck.
you have no choice of truck. you can opt for a LW or condo, but most are Cascadia. its possbile you could get a Pete or KW if a lease op turned it in. ita possible you could get an International LW if you choose a LW. If you reject a truck for any reason you are responsible for your hotel bill. Plus you do not get paid during upgrading, so rake that into consideration.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
Excellent info Rainy, I appreciate it! During this time do you get to stay at the Oasis or the campus inn?
You will be given a solo room at campus. if it is full due to new students you mighy get oasis or econolodge across the street. its not bad. oasis is quite pricey even woth our discount..but when u start making money i recommend the jacuzzi suites lol
Really good helpful info here Rainy!
Super stoked and ready to upgrade!
Do you get a choice between auto and stick?
Are you a lease op or company driver?

No, the transmission you get depends on what's available. We are switching to all autos, so more than likely, you'll get a automatic

im company and make the same amount as a solo lease op. when you break down the average pay per mile deducted by the average operation costs per mile. honest, my boyfriend is a lease op and i have his year end settlements. IF it was worth the aggravation and money, i would do it. But looking at his settlement, i KNOW its a matter of cents per mile difference and i get a fuel bonus so iy makes us even!
All 2016 and prior are manuals. All incoming trucks of 2017 and newer....Adam has a 2019 already...are automatics. IF you get a manual, it is a left over lease or a 2016 that will be sold soon. I ha e a 2016 that will be taken after my next trainee.
Be sure to go to the optional company driver orientation and elogs classes. Most dont and theres some great info there. good luck

Great info! I'll be sure to definitely do the optional classes, I want to be as best prepared as can be when I go out there on my own and unfortunately I feel as though I've reached my peak with my trainer.
Question for you, in your latest article, you note using a little savvy to get your loads in and out sooner when early. What do you recommend with dealing with shippers and receivers when you can get to your appointment time early, to get the ball rolling quicker, so you can be on to your next load?
The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.
Be nice and blame dispatch, never the customer."oh wow, im a day early .dispatch told to get here ASAP cause you are such an important customer" "this load was given high priority status"........"if you can fit me in that will be great...ill just take a nap until you get me a door" that usually gets me a door quicker...often the doors that would have gone to the screamers.
shippers rather deal with non combatant drivers than the ones screaming they have been there for hours. i tell them upfront "you can take all day ill go to sleep" and i do 8 sleeper to sleep. then after loading i roll.out with a full clock.
many customers are first come first serve even though we have appt times. doesnt hurt to try

Yeah, I had one of those people too. When I went in to upgrade, during the winter driving portion, the guy ran his truck off into the woods.
