Steakeater, there is a common misconception among brand new entry level drivers that they can make more money by driving something more dangerous, or challenging, like a tanker. You haven't really told us why you're so interested in a tanker position, but I hope it's not for that reason.
We like to encourage people to take a good steady approach to this career to help them minimize the potential damages early on in their career. With such a steep learning curve confronting a new driver a prudent approach will usually reap the best long term results. There is no short cut to the top pay in this business. There is a huge mix of factors that puts a driver in a position of earning top dollar, the least of which is what type of trailer he's pulling.
