It’s been a while since I’ve been on this page because I was so focused on finishing my first year. My advice to the drivers coming in, do your time, and a whole bunch of opportunities will open up for you. I’ve accepted a position with US Foods that will have me home with my family every night and pays pretty good too. Brett, Old School, Rainy D, and the other moderators, thank you for giving me the advice and encouragement to get me where I am today.
LOVE THIS!! Good luck and i hope it is all you wish it to be.
Thanks Rainy. They pay really good at US Foods and have a pretty good retirement and benefits package over there. Are you still with Prime?
Awesome! Paid hourly or is it pay per case and mile? I've seen it both ways.
Good luck to you. Keep us posted.
Get ready to deal with some cranky chefs, lol. Every US Foods driver i dealt with in my 20 years in the kitchen has always been a good experience. They are going to be a bit rough around the edges thougg, just a fore warning, lol

Hourly pay with all the overtime you can stand.

Believe me, you won't want as much overtime as they'll want you to put in. I work for performance foods doing the same thing. Hope you got a strong back and like working hard. Not sure if your position is based out of the terminal or a domicile yard, where they drop a set of doubles every night, but in my pup trailer which I'm assuming you'll be running it's not too uncommon to have 15 stops with 700+ cases and 19,000 pounds all hand unload. A guy who I used to work with went back to US Foods and he's dealing with about 9 stops 1000 cases every day with 18k weight. Us foods has alot more chain accounts than we do, which tend to take alot more cases meaning less stops on the truck. He is very happy with US Foods, I think you'll enjoy it as long as you don't mind the physical side of it.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.
