Talked to a Wise chip trucker at a Food Lion DC.
He told me he has a choice to have the company pay the lumpers or they pay him to do it himself.
I asked him how much and he said '$9.00'.

I met a driver who got fired from one of them company’s I won’t name them but they rhyme with bj bunt. Said he was somehow stealing the lumper money and unloading the trailers himself. I guess if he used a lumper they would pay 300 dollars but if he unloaded he got a whole lot less. I can’t remember what he said he got paid to do it but it was a far cry from what the limpets would get.
In Georgia I paid 100 for 44,000 lbs of food stuff. Then in the covid19 I sat for 8 hours after the food company changed my delivery time...paid 240 for 42,300 of cereal stuff. Wouldn't let me in the building to unload so was forced to pay lumper fee...backed truck up to dock with doors closed, all work was done inside warehouse... I don't like paying lumpers... just hire employees and let them have a job.
I just left US Foods in Manassas VA for a drop and hook. But we still have to pay a lumper fee which was $369.00 to unload the trailer I dropped. While I was there the guy in front of me not only paid the lumper fee but also he got socked with a $250.00 reschedule fee. Plus US Foods is also shut down their docks to drivers so everyone has to use the Lumper service.

In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.

Drivers that were waiting in line at Sysco MN the other day told me Reinhart and US Foods in the Minneapolis area all kicked their lumpers out. They're shifting their current warehouse staff around to keep them all working. I wonder if this will happen other places as well. My feelings wouldn't be hurt if they'd just do away with lumper services and unload the product themselves.

Recently my 1st experience with this topic. We delivered General Mills honey bunches of oats n other breakfast snacks... We had to sleep on site 10 hours To get to a dock Sunday
43000 lbs worth lumper fees $604....Took em 3 hours to get done with 3 breaks during unload.....Smoke breaks out in glassed room in parking lot lol
Asked em how many damn breaks they get??? Every 2 hours....Told girl heck for $300 I could do it in an hour tops !
PITA was DMs took 2.5 hours to load the fee onto our comdata cards.....Thought heck charge to unload their own dang product....
Joking with the 3 females at the window, said heck for 600 bucks I should get a phone number or 2. Least I had em busting a gut laughing. Best part of the whole experience

I'm heading down to US Foods in Manassas VA with a load of food containers it's always a drop and hook but the Receiver always has my back the loaded trailer into a door and pay a lumper fee which usually runs between $375.00 and $400.00. I message my FM and he sends me a Comcheck number and I pay hook up the empty and head out.
