Get a good spray bottle. Put in about 40% bleach, 50% white vinegar and 10% Dawn dishwashing liquid. Spray it on thick, fuel the tanks, then scrub and squeegee. Should work for most grime and bugs. Won't help for turkeys, though (G-Town).
You got that right...
I use the door mirror to pull me up onto the tire and stand on them to wash.
That can be dangerous....please do not fall off backwards....the result will not be good at all.
Okay first off, what's the deal with the short handle on the window squeegee? I'm 5'8" & I feel ridiculous trying to clean the windshield, I feel like a midget. Second, what's the trick to getting a clean windshield? Scrubbing away with the squeegee doesn't do a damn thing.
Most truck stops have long handled squeegees. Love's are usually on the shorter side. Typically the best ones are at TAs and Petros, but try and stay out of those other than during the middle of the day, lest you get run over by the super truckers. A good compromise in the evenings is usually a PFJ....they are usually more newbie friendly, the squeegee handles are usually prettty good and some of them even have half-decent fluid in the buckets. Sapp Bros are usually good also.

My company's card only allows us to fuel at TA or Petro unless we call for an override. I must have bad luck cause we're only going to the ones that have 5-foot squeegee handles.
I'm going to learn how to use the Quote Button correctly one of these days!

Well, if you can fuel at TA or Petro, you have frequent, easy access to the best window washing stuff at any of the big chains. I do not know why you are having the bad luck but anytime I pull into one of those joints, they have nice long handled squeegees and good fluid. I do not go often though, as my company almost never uses them. But I will stop by to wash windows or if I need the shop or whatever. I am actually parked at one of the wretched places now, as no other option in Ontario CA. Fortunately, I will be out of this state by tomorrow night.
Maybe you are on the short side? I am just 5 11 and shrinking but reach the windows just fine with the provided equipment. I have a shorter student with me at the moment and have noticed that he has trouble. But a month or so ago I had a very short student that had no trouble....she was a tough one and no window was going to elude her washing wand :-)
I'm 5'8" and I have trouble reaching the windshield (especially the center strip) on my Freightliner Cascadia, IF the hood is LATCHED. Open your hood.. much easier to reach. When I had my Volvo, I had no problems reaching any of it.
