Splitter: I definitely realize getting accepted is just a small part, but it is one more step on my Journey!

I have to get my permit first due to Illinois laws about transferring CDLs.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Only issue I am having is my Mother, few family, and best friend really, really, really don't want me to do this. I'm 34 though and feel I gotta give it a shot!

At 34 and single, you are the only one in charge of your life. Live it.

Oh man, trust me, no one ever throws a party for anyone who just announced they're going to drive a truck. My ma wanted to jump straight into her grave and my neighbor said one word, "Hemorrhoids," and walked away when I told him. So I realized right away it wasn't worth telling anyone. Believe me, no one has ever been more excited about getting started in trucking than I was when I started. I couldn't sleep for weeks I was so wound up and ready to go. The schooling was agonizing. I just wanted to be out there living it!

So don't let anyone get you down. In the end the people that love you will be happy if you're happy. Simple as that. After I had driven for a while my ma realized how much I loved it and what an amazing life I was living out there on the road so she was super happy for me.
