I arrived and checked into my room today in Drumright,OK and start my training tomorrow. I have heard good things about Central Tech and if all goes well and I get my CDL I will be off to CFI. I want to thank everyone who is involved on Trucking Truth this website has helped me out more than you know. I am very nervous about the pre trip and backing but it is something everyone has to learn.

CDL:

  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

First day down. First thing this morning we had to go take the Physical and get started learning the manual to get our permit. I have made 100% on all my test so far thanks to the practice test on this site! We go Friday to get our permit then we start learning pre trip and driving on Monday. I will keep everyone posted daily or at least try.

Well I aced my cdl permit test today and I went ahead and got tanker, hazmat , and double/triple endorsements since I don’t know what the future hold so it was easier to get them now then try and get them later. Next week is when the real classes begin and I am still pretty nervous about backing and the pre trip but the class that graduates next Friday all passed and got their cdl license on the first try so I know if I just listen and ask questions I will be fine. I hope everyone has a great and safe weekend!!!

Congratulations on your new CLP!dancing-banana.gifdancing-banana.gifdancing-banana.gif

CLP:

Commercial Learner's Permit

Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.

Central Tech grad here, wishing you luck! You are set up for success. Great equipment, instructors, facility, and the nicest road course / skills area in the business. Just finished my first year behind the wheel, and credit much of my success to Central Tech and Trucking Truth!

I know it’s been a while but I have been swamped with studying the pre trip and homework trying to learn to double clutch lol but this has so far been a great adventure. The instructors are very knowledgeable and patient with each student. We have a 3 day weekend then on Tuesday we are going to start backing so everyone wish me luck!!!

Double Clutch:

To engage and then disengage the clutch twice for every gear change.

When double clutching you will push in the clutch, take the gearshift out of gear, release the clutch, press the clutch in again, shift the gearshift into the next gear, then release the clutch.

This is done on standard transmissions which do not have synchronizers in them, like those found in almost all Class A trucks.
