The written test has two parts. First part is matching the correct macros from the Qualcomm. The second part gives you a load assignment and you answer questions about the trip. This includes how much transit time and if you can legally do the load.

The drive part is going out usually with a group and takes about 30 minutes or so. Then when you get back to the terminal you each take a turn backing into the spot they have set up.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

With the route plan part, is that with a paper atlas or something else to map.

There isn't a map part. It is questions like: Trip A is 1200 miles how many hours should you plan? Can you deliver on timed based on load assignment? You have 20 hours available, can you legally deliver the load on time.
