Congrats. Man, it seems like just yesterday you got to Prime for your first day of training. Maybe it is me, but I feel like you breezed thru school. I know you still have to go out with a "finisher" is it for another 30-40K miles?

Again, congrats. Chris

30k combined, we hope within 4-5 weeks with about a week off next month that my trainer had preplanned prior so at least I’ll get a little home time as well. Thanks Chris, it feels great to finally have that CDL!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Big thanks again everyone. I came into this knowing more than some and less than others, but thanks hugely to a fellow vapor I know who drives for Prime and this site and everyone here, I came in with a huge positive attitude, and the understanding that this was a big interview meant to push me to see if I could comprehend and adapt. Now the next phase is known as TNT , meaning Team driving to reach a goal of combined 30,000 driven safe miles. My trainer has been great, letting me watch and learn as much as possible, let me bump all the docks, deal with traffic, construction, shippers n receivers, so thanks to him for the help and giving my ego a nice pat on the back that got us both a test out bonus and getting ahead of the game for this phase which will hopefully get us some real team miles sooner than usual as there really isn’t much left for him to teach me that we won’t be able to go over during the first couple loads. Now the fun part, my wife would vouch for this, I rarely let other people drive when I’m in a vehicle which I obviously know I have to do now, but the part I will have problems with is sleeping while someone else drives.... that may take some “work” to break that issue. Especially in a big noisy rig compared to a car. But, just one more goal for me, and as I will not fail, I’ll adapt and before we all know it, I’ll be back here to Springfield jumping into my own truck. Be safe out there!!

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

TNT:

Trainer-N-Trainee

Prime Inc has their own CDL training program and it's divided into two phases - PSD and TNT.

The PSD (Prime Student Driver) phase is where you'll get your permit and then go on the road for 10,000 miles with a trainer. When you come back you'll get your CDL license and enter the TNT phase.

The TNT phase is the second phase of training where you'll go on the road with an experienced driver for 30,000 miles of team driving. You'll receive 14¢ per mile ($700 per week guaranteed) during this phase. Once you're finished with TNT training you will be assigned a truck to run solo.
