Wow! I hear ya.....I'm not sure that I'd like that either!😮
Yeah...major downhill with no chance to set it? Pretty scary! From watching Chris descending mountains the past few weeks, this truck does a decent job of holding gear and speed in full auto ..... but I still don't think I would like not being able to override it!
Can you use your 'womanly wiles' to get the company mechanics to take care of that for you? Or are they immune? lol
Failing that; lock 'em in the dungeon until they relent? 😜
There are only two ways that I have found to hold a gear on the auto-shifts (Swift's config.); cruise control when set for a max speed and/or pushing the "-" on the steering wheel to lower the speed and of course manual.
It's always (seems) trying to upshift and maintain the highest gear. You'll especially see this when exiting the Interstate; it's pushing against the brake's resistance. Especially in the rain, when empty I'll start slowing down well before the exit (with the turn signal "on") so I am in a lower gear before approaching the tighter curve of the exit.
Obviously cruise is verboten in the snow. The only way I have forced it to down shift in auto mode is to brake slightly and simultaneously apply light Jake. Again not the greatest idea in the snow especially if empty.
I use manual mode in the snow, wouldn't have it any other way. The only reason I can think of for Prime to disable manual mode is to prevent over-revving the engine.
I have requested a special SIM session just to experiment in snowy conditions, to see how the truck behaves in full auto mode on a snowy descent. Swift doesn't require experienced drivers to take SIM classes unless they have had a critical event or accident. Otherwise I'd have done this by now. I'd like to Errol's opinion on this since he is a Swift instructor.
You might want to request the same thing Rainy. Test the handling in a controlled environment just to get an idea of what you can expect.

Operating While Intoxicated
...in addition, if not in cruise, very easy to hold a gear with a combination of Jake and service brake. But again, not always an advisable approach in the snow.

Thanks Simon. At Prime there has been an on going issue. They had 25 autos as a test case to see if they wanted to go that way. They had the manual shift selector engaged. My friend drove one. On the next auto he had, Prime deactivated it. My boyfriends a lease and they deactivated his as well. My guy then paid freighiner to re engage it. when he later serviced it at prime, they reverse it and after a huge argument with the hrad of maintenance, they charged him to re engage what they had just switched.
it seems some trucks here can be put in manual and some cannot even though their training videos say they can. i know people who argued with mechanics and higher ups saying it wasnt necessary.
mountains and snow without that manual have me scared. as m7ch as i love prime i would leave first befire taking a truck i cannot lock into gear.
