Which companies are pro-team husband and wife teams? My soon-to-be wife and I want to team drive for at least 3 years before we venture out to start our own company

There are quite a few companies that hire inexperienced drivers for teaming. Do either one of you have your CDL-A yet?

Are you leaning towards company sponsored schools?

A final thought.. what if one passed and obtained their CDL (and was under contract to that company) and the other spouse didn't and was sent home?

You really need to consider everything. I teamed with my other half for a while.. surprisingly, you'll spend very little time together. While I miss running around with him, we both drive solo for the same company, both train new drivers, and share home time.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Prime will train and hire new drivers and you can team after training. if one fails, the other can be a passenger until they are able to try again.
