Reprated wind-tunnel testing suggests these covers increase fuel economy by up to 2%. Some argue there is no savings, however by they were installed on your truck for a reason. And until Swift supports a fleetwide removal of them, they are here to stay.
Fuel cost per truck is about 42k annually on 100,000 miles driven. At a 1-2% improvement in fuel economy, that’s about $420-840 savings per year, per truck. Swift has 18,000 tractors.
Conservatively estimating, if all of the above is true, that equates to about a 7 Million Dollar annual fleetwide savings if the covers are installed on every truck. A big number.
The covers add no more than 5 minutes to your pretrip to remove and reapply them.
