Get one of the legal services to fight it for you.
Sure, yeah fight it, whatever...there is a bigger issue here. It happened, fighting it will not make it go away, might reduce the points and the severity of the charge. As long as you were not terminated from your employer, and need to look for another driving job you should be okay. In fact, you need to report it to your company. Don’t let them find it after the fact, report it and do not delay.
That said... What caused you to run a stop sign?
It’s a fixed traffic signal, never changes. Consider the possibility of a minivan with a Mommy and her two toddlers entering the intersection at the same time you did... Points on your license would be the very least of your concerns.
Drive safer and please learn from this.
Yeah, if you blew through a stop sign that's pretty scary. Like G-Town said, make sure you learn from that.
I would definitely fight the ticket and try to get it reduced. Often times a court will be willing to reduce tickets to something that puts no points on your license but requires a decent fine. After all, cities and states don't pay their bills by putting points on your license, they need that cash out of your wallet. So it's definitely worth fighting.
No, you're not screwed though. Do all you can to protect that license though for sure.
