This is really good. *like!!!
Brilliant as ever!
This should be made compulsory reading at every company orientation course!
👍😊
Mentioning the high turnover rate is not to be understated.
When I went to orientation with Stevens, we started with 32.
After going out with a trainer, that number was 12.
After the first year, 3 guys were left, one of whom I. One of the others became a contractor/trainer.
Graduating is important. But surviving the first year even more so. :)
Thank you very much for this. I'll have to print out the part about wanting to quit everyday and have it posted up somewhere as a reminder that things will be hard but don't quit out.
Brett you are so right. It should be compulsory for every driver headed to orientation. I think out of the graduates from our class... near 26 or so, only 3 or 4 are still at it. Out of my orientation I know of only 2 of us that made it past the first year, and both of us have moved on to better opportunities. Old School is really gifted us all with his insight, as have all of you guys here. Keep it up ok. There are days I'm sure for all of us, when a little outside perspective is very very helpful. Thanks again, Tony

We have an awesome new article from Old School:
A Commencement Speech For Truck Driving School Graduates
If Old School were to be the guest speaker at your graduation ceremony, this is what he would like to say. Having Old School at your graduation ceremony would indeed be a huge privilege because he worked hard and stayed the course through the ups and downs of getting his career underway and has gone on to have many years of successful driving at the highest level.
There are key aspects of this career than many new drivers fail to understand, and it happens to be the cause of a lot of failures in this industry. Countless drivers that have dropped out of trucking early in their career would have gone on to be fantastic drivers, but they simply didn't understand what it takes to thrive in this industry, and their frustrations led them to an early exit.
Read this article and you'll have a better understanding of what it takes to reach the highest level in this industry.
