Adam, you may be misunderstanding. I'm in Schneider orientation right now. They sent me to Trainco to get my CDL. That was also three weeks long(for manual) and two weeks for auto. After I got my CDL , I came to a Schneider Operating Center to learn how to drive for Schneider. That's the Qualcomm , all of their safety classes and videos, trip planning, backing, road driving, and then a week on the road with the trainer. Two more days and I go back to Carlisle PA and take my tests which determine if I'm ready for my own truck. Any other company and you're probably longer before you get out by yourself. They've got a pretty good track record doing it this way though, so I'm feeling like I'll be ready when they say I'm ready. (I'll still be super nervous at first.)

Adam, some companies want you to have the CLP & Med. Cert. Card before arriving at school, some like Prime, will take care of it during your first week.

Commercial Learner's Permit
Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.
