Hi I'm new here and I'm wondering would it be better to go through a technical school or try and find a company that would be willing to train new drivers? Thanks

Welcome to the forum Emily.

It really depends on what it is you are looking for.

Either course will get you to what you want, a class A CDL.

Main difference is how much money do you want to put up in the beginning? Also, company sponsored is no cost to you financially, just time wise (usually 1 year).

So it really boils down to do you want to have to be on the hook monetarily or time?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
