Just some heads up for anyone that has been diagnosed with sleep apnea. Just found out must be 30 days compliant before training with Prime. Unsure about other companies?

Sleep Apnea:

A physical disorder in which you have pauses in your breathing, or take shallow breaths, during sleep. These pauses can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Normal breathing will usually resume, sometimes with a loud choking sound or snort.

In obstructive sleep apnea, your airways become blocked or collapse during sleep, causing the pauses and shallow breathing.

It is a chronic condition that will require ongoing management. It affects about 18 million people in the U.S.

Do you mean 30 days of use or that you are using it at least 6 hours a night?

Robert, I was told by my recruiter that I needed 30 days of use before they could take me. Didn't say anything in regards to hours of use. The reason it came up is because I seen on here that they test if your BMI is over 40 and/ or you have a neck size of more than 17 inches and I emailed him. He asked me on the phone if I ever had a sleep study done before and I told him that I did 4 yrs ago and that I do have a machine but have not been using it. He then told me that I need to use it for 30 days before they can take me. So that pushed me back. Kinda sux but it is what it is I guess. I am waiting for Cardinal to reach out to me. I take it they are the ones that oversee this part of exam.

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

I just called Cardinal Sleep in Springfield, MO and she said that "Yes... 30 consecutive days with a minimum of 4 hours per day before orientation at Prime Inc.".

Mike D.- I have had my machine since June and use it every night. But my mask is just the things that go into your nostrils. And my machine is very quite. But they called and said they want to do another sleep study so this Thursday night I go back for another one. They can change the pressure from the study center by remote, but they said I still need another study. I've been transferred to another CPAP Doctor the other one was overloaded with other veterans. I start school on Monday the 17th. So I hope they don't find something to delay. I'm sorry for your delay but it will go by quick. And you might even get a newer, quieter machine. But good luck to you and be safe.

CPAP:

Constant Positive Airway Pressure

CPAP is a breathing assist device which is worn over the mouth or nose. It provides nighttime relief for individuals who suffer from Sleep Apnea.

All I can say is that my CPAP machine changed my life. I get restful sleep now and have tons more energy during the day. Plus not using one if you have sleep apnea could hurt your health and even kill you. If the doctor says you need one its worth the annoyance and you get used to it fast enough.

You basically need to be 70% compliant at 4 hrs a day for 30 days so basically 21 days out of 30. When I renewed my med card using Swifts dr they insisted on having 90 day's of compliance.
