I know nothing about these videos, as I am not a driver yet, but I do know if the videos are on a computer, they can definitely track whether you skipped them, switched to another window, even where your mouse pointer is moved.
Don't believe it? Log onto facebook, and watch one of their videos (from Facebook) that have ads in the middle. When the ad starts, switch windows, then after a few seconds, switch back. The ad will pause until you make that window live again, and resume right where it left off.
Computer programming is based on where the mouse is, what window is live, etc. Programming it to verify whether or not you tried to skip ahead in a video is simple. I wonder why they haven't simply disabled the ability to skip forward. Maybe to see who tries to?
