Well the good thing is with my driving record and having passed 4 or 5 federal government background checks in the last 10 years I don't have any baggage to worry about. I talked with a recruiter from Hogan today and he seems real interested. Job seems OK a regional reefer job and he said I would be out 1-2 nights a week. I pressed him pretty hard on this and he stuck to his guns so we'll see what happens. It's the only serious discussion I've had so but there will be others. As one of the articles I read on here said "don't take the first offer".
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
A refrigerated trailer.
There are plenty of posters here who went to school spent thousands of dollars and for whatever reason, no company will hire them. ….. Therefore many drivers find themselves having wasted time and tons of money.
Had they not given me a pre-hire letter (which doesn't mean a whole lot) I would have signed up for company school.
Most people think a prehire means they are hired. they dont realize the heavy duty background checks and medical investigations do not take place until you get to the company.
I do realize that. It wasn't as much the prehire as the specific job that if I can make it through their process, is a perfect fit for my situation. I also know there is a good chance it won't work out, and I will end up applying to other companies anyway.
A prehire is basically an agreement to interview me, and I could probably have gotten one from quite a few companies.
I made sure they were aware of anything negative in my history. Had they not been interested at that point, I would not have gambled on paying with my own money. I fully realize they could send me packing in January, and I don't really recommend anyone else take the gamble I took. Especially if they can't easily afford to pay for their schooling. If you would have to borrow money, or if it would use up all your savings, there is definitely no way should you pay for your own school.
Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.
During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.
