I’ve been out of a truck since 2015. Grown a lot and learned a lot since then but I have a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge that a little over 2 years old now. Reckless driving that’s 4 years old, driving while suspended. Some of these charges have ARD next to them. I’ve been red flagged from a insurance company of a box truck. I’m just trying to get back on my feet. Schneider got my hopes up then the recruiter said oh no we can’t take you after I told her all my charges. I have given up looking but I’ve tried a lot of companies so far. Trans Am, Swift, prime, Carolina cargo but they don’t have a cdl program, if there’s any driver that can point me in the right direction please do.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

What is ARD?

Swift, unless they've changed the policy, won't talk to you until the drug charge is ten years old.

The drug charge is going to be the biggest hurdle. Usually one reckless driving charge you can find something after five years, but combined with the possession charge and you have probably killed your chances at a career driving.

Have you gone through a SAP program? That may be your only hope of having any chance out here.

SAP:

Substance Abuse Professional

The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.

Your going to have to wait to all the convictions are at least 5 years old, then try reapplying. Even then most companies will pass but you may get lucky.

If the box truck insurance rejected you, it is highly unlikely any insurance for larger vehicles will accept you.
