Wow! Leave it to our governing bodies to make things smooth and efficient. At least you're getting an introduction into how frustrating some days can be when you are a truck driver. It's always best to be able to let things roll off of you and carry on in a fashion that carries through and gets the job done no matter what the obstacle. Patience, and the willingness to deal with stubborn idiots at times are oft required virtues in this business.
Thanks Old School. Went down today and everything went smooth. Officially have a CDL Permit with endorsements. Taking the DOT physical at the end of the week.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
I can relate, I am just so glad that I had several friends take the test before me and tell me the pitfalls of why people get turned away. The biggest reason (at least here in AZ) was lack of a valid birth certificate. Several people had an unofficial birth record like the one that I had been using for years. If you are over 40 there is a good chance that you need to get an official record from your state.

Hey all,
New here, 51 years old getting prepped to go to school. Wanted to get all my ducks in a row before committing to a school so there wouldn't be any surprises (CDL Permit, DOT Physical etc)
Anyway the dmv here only takes checks or money orders no cash or bankcards. So I emailed the website, told them I wanted to transfer my license to PA, get learners permit with Airbrakes, doubles/triples and tanker endorsements, how much for the money order? They emailed me back, went down today, not only were they $20 off in what they told me but it has to be a separate money order for each transaction.
Frustrating but I'll keep moving forward.
Greg
