I've been thinking about buying some LED lights for my truck, or something much brighter for night driving. I was wondering if anyone could recommend anything?

I drive a 2016 freightliner cascadia.

I'd recommend not buying any and leaving the factory installed lights.. Yeah the LEDs may help you see into next week, but opposing traffic can't see the road in front of them from being blinded. They're all the rage I know, but I'm not a fan.

I should have added:

LED fog lights are a much better alternative in my opinion. You can use them as needed, and turn them off when opposing other vehicles

Yeah, I was going to use them as high beams, I don't plan to blind everyone. rofl-1.gif

Just when I'm driving down a long dark road alone, I'd like to be able to see easier.

Go ahead and get them. The big problem is that most people don't bother to read the additional card in the box that mentions adjustment after installation. As long as you adjust them properly, you won't be blinding everyone but most folks see, plug and play and that's all they do. Perform the adjustment and enjoy the cleaner light as you head down the road.

Your existing headlights would probably work a little better if you adjust them slightly. My other half adjusted mine up just a teeny bit on my old truck and I honestly never needed the high beams at all. Check the adjustment on the ones you have.. they may be off a tiny bit.

BTW I don't care much for the LED lights in my 2019. Honestly, my old truck, the lights adjusted properly, I could see better IMO. This gem probably needs adjusting. I get a dark stripe out in front of the truck.. even though they're working properly.. they're awful.

I agree totally with Susan in that I like the standard lights better than the LEDs. I've never used the foglights/extra driving lights on any semi tractor, though.

Unless you have a proper housing for the LED bulbs they will shoot the light everywhere and you will have no usable light, it just scatters. If you have a projector housing for the headlights which im assuming you don't since you work for Schneider? Just adjust the stock ones properly when you have the chance against a wall, there are two screws used for adjustment. And if your company allows to get led fog lights installed on your truck, a company called Rigid Industries makes DOT/SAE "street legal" fog lights, they are about $225 a set and they work wonderfully, i use them in my Jeep and cover the areas they need too.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
