Also, make sure you get a radio with the Weather Band in it. It's awesome to be able to tune to that quickly and hear the robot voice tell you about the impending doom of a storm on the horizon.

Cobra 29 is certainly the best bet for what you're looking for. I used that (or its Uniden equivalent) for about 15 years. Loved it!
