I think a lot of newer tractors don't have that option anymore. I know at US Xpress our tractors were switched over to a traction control system that would lock the differentials in for you automatically when needed. At least that was the theory. I'm not a big fan of computers or machines doing things for me without having any say in the matter, but engineers like to engineer things that way.
I have a 13 and we have both the TC and ID. All of our trucks do so I think all of our drivers should at least know about it. Couldnt believe they didnt cause it is a dmv test question in PA.
The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.
I agree - if the truck has it you have to know how to use it.
Almost all trucks have the Differental locks or at least the manual transmissions do.

So yesturday I told a story about my 5 stop manifest load out of Cali that delivered to 5 chinese/asian stores at my terminal. When I got this load I knew my truck wouldnt fit in most of these places but was told to make the deliveries anyway. Well wouldnt you know my truck got stuck in a lot because the exit had an incline so deep going up then back down that the bottom of my kw couldn't clear it. (Ps was not something you could see from the entrance) So they had to call a wrecker. The tow guy shows up and tells me lock it in 1st, put my interaxle differential and gun the engine??????!!!!!! Do you know I had 2 drivers ask me what the differential was? I mean that's something you gotta know! (PS rookies/students: Your interaxle in case you didnt know causes all your drive tires to spin and you gain better traction if your on icy roads or stuck however you should never go faster than 25/30mph when its on)
Manifest:
Bill of Lading
An accurate record of everything being shipped on a truck, often times used as a checklist during unloading.
Terminal:
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
