I have both the SoClean and the VirtuClean. Each goes for $250 - $300. Both machines claim to kill 99% of bacteria using oxygen. Both machines will even clean the water still in the humidifier.
****Neither machine will clean facial oils from the masks. You must use either Cpap wipes or the SoClean pretreating solution for the oils and dirt. The machines kill bacteria only.**
VirtuClean
The VirtuClean is much smaller (the size of a few cell phones stacked together), charges with a USB cord and has no filters. You need to run it twice, once you hook the tube to the box then to the machine and it runs 30 min. Then you hook the tube to the box and the other end to the mask. You place the mask in a zipper bag provided. It runs another 30 min for the mask and it automatically shuts off when done. It will run 7 times on a full charge.
Pro: It takes up very little space and doesnt need to be near an outlet. No adapters are needed so it fits every machine.
Con: You need to run it twice (but this means the tube gets cleaned twice)
Total run time: 2 cycles of 30 min each.
SoClean
The SoClean has a black adapter that fits between the machine and the tube. This black adapter is connected to a hose which emits the oxygen. The SoClean can remain connected to the Cpap at all times. When doing so, all you need to do is place the mask into the well, shut the lid and hit the button. The machine runs for 7 mins, but will allow the oxygen to permeate for 2 hours before shutting off. It has a timer on it so if you want it to run at 10pm every night it will. It has a filter that should be changed every 6 months. Also, it does not fit every machine and could need an adapter. It fit mine, but i needed to cut a tube for better insertion.
Pro: Very easy to use
Con: May need adapter, needs filter change, takes up space
Comparing the two:
I did not find one cleaned better than the other. You can definitely smell the oxygen scent when the machines run and it remains on the mask and tube for a while.
I had the SoClean first and lost it somehow when i went for surgery and got a new truck. i suspect i will find it in my storage locker. i bought the VirtuClean because a local medical supply store had it.
CPAP is a breathing assist device which is worn over the mouth or nose. It provides nighttime relief for individuals who suffer from Sleep Apnea.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
Thank you very much for the detailed response. I'll definitely be getting one of them.
Rob, i too was congested the first six months or so. they kept telling me to use the humidifier on the highest setting but it didnt help. i used zyrtec when on a 34 or at home and mucinex OTR. i also got a jar of Vicks Vapor rub and put it next to the air intake. it helped somewhat. It took like 8 mos to clear up.
it wasnt a cold at all. it was my bodys reaction to the cpap. and be sure to change your filters. i got the optional HEPA from the beginning but if you read my posts on the subject you will see...i have had this thing for 18 mos and still hate it. i sleep better without it. seriously i sleep more deeply and dream without it. Otherwise i wake up groggy, and want to do the "5 more minutes" thing. It is not the masks and it is not the pressure amount.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Thanks for very informative info on both machines. I will get one of them soon. I hate to clean the hose and mask because it takes so long to dry. But it smells like lemons afterwards though. I have to take it with me at the truck stops showers to clean.

I remember in a previous thread you mentioned buying the SoClean cpap cleaner. Does it actually work? I've done the weekly cleaning as I was instructed but I've had this cold for 3 weeks I cant seem to shake. After cleaning my air hose this last time I noticed it still had quite a bit of water drips in it despite being left to air dry for 12 hours. My wife's been getting on me about getting the SoClean, just curious if it actually works before I spend $300.
Thanks.
