Errol wins. He wins the internet today.
Well, this YouTube video was posted here on TT a few years ago. I'm just bumping it for The Next Generation. I can't put this Webby award on my dashboard.
Joanne, Please seriously consider putting together a spreadsheet with this info. I have looked at the FMCSA website and CSR ratings in the past. All of the info is there. And lots of it. I am not a real computer savvy guy. If someone even mentions the WORD spreadsheet in my presence, I kind of get the "deer in the headlights" look on my face. It would be nice to see all of that information condensed and filtered to see the true safety ratings of the "Big Players" in the industry. Crashes, fatalities, inspections, out of service, with an apples to apples comparison. My guess is that Swift would fare quite well. With approxomately 15,000 trucks on the road, and over 2 billion annual miles, of course the numbers would be higher than a 500-1000 truck fleet. But, are the percentages really any higher (or lower), than the industry as a whole. Im sure if you were to email the spreadsheet to Brett he would be happy to format it properly for the site. Along with being an expert in the Trucking industry, he is also quite the computer guru.
Thanks
The CSA is a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) initiative to improve large truck and bus safety and ultimately reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities that are related to commercial motor vehicle
The FMCSA was established within the Department of Transportation on January 1, 2000. Their primary mission is to prevent commercial motor vehicle-related fatalities and injuries.
What Does The FMCSA Do?
I'd be interested to know how Fed Ex fits in there. Not all drivers, but most I've seen seem like they're always driving like a bat out of hell in inclement weather. Today seen one pulling doubles that was folded up like an accordion with the lead trailer crushing the sleeper.
Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.
I started w/ Swift and it looks like the most recent (comprehensive) data is from 2006. Does that sound legit???

What Does The FMCSA Do?
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Awesome; very helpful!
The first thing I notice is that their "out of service" is 3-5% below the national average. More to come lol

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.OOS:
