This is one thing I'm seriously considering as in a few months I'll be at a year with the company. Really tired of sitting and not getting paid.
I remember you went to school in des Moines but is that where you live? Not sure if you want to stay OTR or possibly get on somewhere that you'll be home most nights while still doing 400-600 miles a day. I work 4 days a week and with hourly pay at the rate I'm going if I do it all year I'll make about 80k, use electric pallet Jack to unload. where I'm at is hiring and they're continuing to grow like crazy. They just finished putting up 2 new warehouses in Ankeny off Delaware Ave.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
One of the best parts about working for fedex is that we can load and unload our own trailers. No sitting and wondering, just hop on a lift and do it yourself if you have to. Usually our trailers are already done so we drop and hook , but it's an option
Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.
In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.

Thank you for the heads up. Seriously this might be something I'll be considering in the near future. Not sure how to contact with you on this site. But if I would sign on with them I would want you to get the bonus. I'm running out of Kansas City right now that's where my girlfriend lives but I do live in Des Moines. I'm kind of flipping coin right now as to where I want to live.

I appreciate the offer however it's not neccessary. I'm very happy there and recommend them to anyone I know that's looking. Only negatives I have about the job is slip seating being so new, and daily bidding of routes. I dont find out until about 3pm where I'm going that night/following morning (most loads depart midnight to 2am). Sometimes I get sent out as early as 10pm. They just hired more people and hiring even more as soon as we start running the flower loads out of Ankeny.

Cargill at Fort Morgan Colorado. We run out of there alot and the trailers are preloaded. Twice now the load wasn't ready and both times I was picking those loads up and taking them to our terminal in Kansas City to go on my home time. One time was 14 hours the other time was almost 19 hours. Also I've had two occasions there where I called ahead of time to make sure the load was ready got hooked up to the trailer and as I was getting checked out by the guard realized the seals were wrong so ended up sitting there one night an additional five hours because quality control had already left for the night and had to wait until they got there in the morning. We don't get detention pay. This is one thing I'm seriously considering as in a few months I'll be at a year with the company. Really tired of sitting and not getting paid.
Terminal:
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
TWIC:
Transportation Worker Identification Credential
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
HOS:
Hours Of Service
HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
