DOT Officer: "looks like you didn't log a pre trip inspection today."

Me: "but officer, my GPS tracker showed Rainy only 20 miles away. I had to get outta there quick..."

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

When it's cold out, warm and cozy under the covers, I just crank the heat from my bunk controls. Once it's warm enough, it's up and at'em. Every day is hard for me to get motivated, it's the money that calls my name.

I just have an insatiable urge to be the best I can be by putting myself in a position to take advantage of whatever time I can gain. It's a sickness, I think. Quite often I'll even wake up just before my alarm is set to go off. The desire to run is always strong in me.

My motivation is to make myself stand out when I can. Always arriving early, resetting my hours with a 34 when possible, taking a chance on the customer taking me a day early. All are motivators for me.

Getting home for dinner with the wife and daughter. We have a saying "start late, end late". If get going by 4 am I'm getting home for dinner. 5 is a maybe and 6 is a no. Pushes me to get better every day and find ways to save time.

The need for a PAY CHECK!!!! That (and the good benefits) keep me hanging on at my current job... Well, the fact that I need those things for my kids. If it were just me, I would NOT still be here!

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I try to see how high I can get on the driver ranking each month. I'm at #12 currently. My goal is top 5. Out of 550 drivers I wont whine so long as I stay above 20 (unless I take lots of vacation).
