Somebody has to get the brand new truck. May as well be you, so don’t over-think it.
That's true.
Jamie, I'm not really jealous, I'm happy for you. But the refrigerator and APU are the two top things on my wish list. It would be like: "Hey Grandpa, they are installing this new thing out here that they call electricity. They say we can even get a new fangled device that keeps the food and beer cold!"
On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.
Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

I figured you were joking, however I wasn't. I was really jealous of trucks with APUs in them..
It's also good timing with spring and summer coming up quickly, since I'd be able to idle my air without using so much fuel.

Jamie, I used to like you but not so much any more...
Awesome Congratulations Jamie. I was in the impression that every truck comes with an APU. Both my PSD and TNT trainers trucks have that. Hope in the future when I go solo the truck they assign me will have that.
Prime Inc has a CDL training program and the first phase is referred to as PSD. You'll get your permit and then 10,000 miles of on the road instruction.
Prime’s PSD begins with you obtaining your CDL permit. Then you’ll go on the road with a certified CDL instructor for no less than 75 hours of one-on-one behind the wheel training. After training, you’ll return to Prime’s corporate headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, for final CDL state testing and your CDL license.
Prime Inc has their own CDL training program and it's divided into two phases - PSD and TNT.
The PSD (Prime Student Driver) phase is where you'll get your permit and then go on the road for 10,000 miles with a trainer. When you come back you'll get your CDL license and enter the TNT phase.
The TNT phase is the second phase of training where you'll go on the road with an experienced driver for 30,000 miles of team driving. You'll receive 14¢ per mile ($700 per week guaranteed) during this phase. Once you're finished with TNT training you will be assigned a truck to run solo.

I believe that it is standard equipment with Prime. Three years ago when I started with Swift, no APU's , refrigerators, or inverters. My new truck has an 1800 watt inverter and a refrigerator. No APU though, still need to idle for A/C. Competition for drivers is pretty fierce right now. Companies are adding these amenities to their trucks to lure drivers.

On the Wolding trucks, lol. Our New Cascadias have the Fridge, TV mount, etc... we have always had the air gauge for the drive air bags. That thing is a blessing. My suggestion Jamie, first time you get a heavy load and near a free scale that is trustworthy, try to max out your drives at 34k. Take a good look at your air bag pressure gauge. Try to memorize where the 34k is at. It isn’t exact, but will get you close. I love that bag pressure gauge.
I have those gauges on my truck too, didn't know what it was for until I was talking to another one of our drivers at a shipper one day shortly after I got my new truck. He also had a new Kenworth and showed me how it worked. It is really cut down on scaling time. Used to be able to weigh two or three times on iffy loads but can't remember doing more than one reweigh since he explained it
The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.
Well I'm heading back to work tomorrow at 7am, have mix feelings.
Because I'm always a bit sad when I'm leaving again since I won't see my wife again for a few weeks, but at the same time I get to drive my new truck and enjoy all the new features.
