has anyone ever been in a situation where having an helped them?
I've had 6-10 times where I was warned ahead of time of an accident or something ahead with major traffic backups. Each time I've been able to pull off and take an alternate route to get around them. The alternate route usually only takes an additional five or ten minutes, vs potentially sitting hours waiting for a scene to be cleared.
The best part: When the alternate route runs parallel to the interstate , as is often the case, we hear driver after driver in the jam ask "Anybody know what the holdup is? Why are we at a stop?"
Those are the ones who leave their radio off until there's a problem. Trouble is, by that time they're in the problem.
Countless other times I've been warned of upcoming hazards, as well as being able to warn other drivers of potential hazards ahead of them.
My CB is an invaluable tool to me. It's saved me untold hours and headaches.
Learn to use the squelch to drown out the static, but keep the radio on anytime you're driving. You can always temporarily turn it down while some yahoo is singing, talking like Radio Rambo, or when you get to the truck stop.
Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).
A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).
It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.
Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.
RD, good point. Like a lot of things, they can be either a blessing or a curse. It depends on how we use them to our advantage as drivers. I know nothing about CB radios except they can be used in a positive way from what I've learned here.
BTW, can you use the CB to call the Domino pothole repair squad?

Rule #1 -- Don't call anybody "Good Buddy" unless you wanna start a fight.
Like Turtle Ive had a number of times where I was able to get around a bad backup because I was listening to my cb.
One particular occasion I took a state highway paralleling the interstate on the recommendation of several driver's heading the opposite way. The interstate was at a standstill but I had a wide open highway to myself. The interstate and the state Highway both had Bridges crossing over a body of water just a couple hundred yards apart. As I crossed the bridge and looked over at the stopped traffic on the interstate, I heard a voice come over the CB. "How ya doing over there Prime?"
I responded, " Doing great! Just enjoying the scenery over here!"

That can be a blessing. Means no backups. If you really want to hear something go to a truckstop and listen to them make fun of drivers backing or complaining about their companies or just racist comments. Youll get all 3.

Few weeks back there was an accident 10 miles up the road , semi vs car road completely shut down. Northbound told me about it and I was able to exit before the backup, and get back on just past it. One thing to keep in mind is what others tell you to take to avoid it isn't necessarily the best route. In this particular case a driver suggested a route that would add on nearly 100 miles. I was familiar with the area and knew of county roads I could take that added on only 5 miles.
