I am posting this for a new member whose comment I rejected based on attitude and bashing his company. I truly hope that he can realize with 2 DUI's on his record, he was lucky to get hired by anyone. Also, if he stays at his current company for a year and proves himself worthy, it may open some doors for him. He may need to work at a company that pays less for awhile before moving up the pay scale.

Company DUI policies

The information is important, so I wanted to make it visible to him and others searching.

Also, I am sure without the negativity and attitude, future posts will be approved. It is our goal here at Trucking Truth to help drivers succeed, but decorum is important as well.

Good Luck.

I have 2 on my record and have not had an issue with any company iv talked too. granted they are older, but still there.. 9/08 and 02/10 to be exact. i always come out with them up front to not waste time ect. i have 3 copys of my MVR from school, and other companys. they dont even show up on them.

MVR:

Motor Vehicle Record

An MVR is a report of your driving history, as reported from your state Department of Motor Vehicles. Information on this report may include Drivers License information, point history, violations, convictions, and license status on your driving record.

Scott, be aware that some companies have a no tolerance at all. Others have a "once in a lifetime limit", regardless of they were 30 years ago. Company policies will differ greatly.

It is great to hear you learned from your mistakes... but be aware....just because YOU do not see them come up, does not mean a company paying a high price check wont find it.

It is always better to be upfront and honest than look like a liar.

Answer the exact question they ask.

"Have you had a DUi in the last 5 years" is much different from "Have you ever had a DUI"

People with driving record issues should be thankful for sure. I have had a rough pick of companies because of some criminal stuff that has nothing to do with driving. I mean I've been turned down a couple dozen times. Overall, I am currently happy where I'm at. Two DUIs and found a DRIVING job? That's great. Be thankful.

Prehire:

What Exactly Is A Pre-Hire Letter?

Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.

A Pre-Hire Letter Is Not A Guarantee Of Employment

The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.

During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.

Keep in mind, they run m7ch.more expensive checks once you get to orientation. Prime finds expunged DUIs and charges.

My company will hire driver's with a DUI , but it has to be at least 7 years old. And honestly, it's more like 10 years old because if you have a DUI, we do require you to have a basically perfect driving record and at least 60 months of OTR driving in the last 6 years.

So - if you're an experienced driver with an old DUI, have learned how stupid that was, and are looking for a good company again - you know where to find me. I can't make any promises other than I will do my best to get you approved.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Rainy, I know you are busy imprisioning.............er........training Daniel. But Scott has stated twice, in two posts that he HAS disclosed these DUI's to prospective employers. Now get back to flogging your trainee.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
