4 weeks into my road training and this happens. I pull up from the fuel island to the line to go inside and use the little boys room and the guy next to me doesnt check his mirrors and cuts the wheel to soon and took out my front end. I know i didnt do anything wrong but its still terrifying and as a student Im prettty worried. Wish me luck.

“That Guy” that ran over your hood needs some more training! No excuse for that other than laziness....

I'm always afraid that's going to happen. If I'm at a pump that has very little room in front to work with, I won't pull up to the line. Id rather have someone get mad at me for sitting in the pump while I go to the restroom, than have my trucks nose tore off.

I don't take long so I haven't had a problem yet. (Always check the kingpin just in case)

Don't quite agree with this statement. When I was solo for a month, I had a load going down I-95 corridor thru DC. My mind was racing as to whether or not to spend the night at our Pittston terminal , just get some food & shower then hit the road, maybe get my laundry done too... then I hear that dreaded crushing sound. My mind was all over the place while setting up to back into a spot & forgot to "watch my wagon". The damage I caused was very similar to that.

What's even more ironic is that I saw that very truck yesterday as he drove past me & waved. Had he of known that it was me that hit him, I think his gesture would've been with one finger. He wasnt in the truck when it happened & security said they'd handle it. Felt like such a schmuck cause his grill was flapping back & forth as he drove past me.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Laziness, ignorance, lack of situational awareness, mirrors not adjusted, stupidity, carelessness, lack of training. Pick a term that fits. NO EXCUSE fits. Period.

If I appeared to be making an excuse then I apologize cause that wasnt my intent. I was just showing that it wasnt from being too lazy to look in my mirror but that I was somewhat overwhelmed at that moment. Judge me all you want.
