See if your favorite made the list!

By Ashley -April 19, 2019 There’s nothing wrong with stopping at some of the big chain truck stops, but sometimes you want to break out of the corporate box and support the mom and pop establishments.

Non-chain truck stops don’t have the big advertising budgets that Love’s and Pilots have, so the best way to hear about some of the smaller stops is simply to ask fellow truckers — so that’s exactly what we did!

Last week, a CDLLife app user asked fellow member for their recommendations for the best non-chain truck stops and more than a hundred drivers voiced their opinion.

Community post by CDLLife App user Steve Williams

Here are some of the top responses. Oasis Travel Center, Robertsdale, Alabama. Though this truck stop is a little bit out of the way, drivers say that they love the food and atmosphere at the Derailed Diner.

Little America Fuel Center, Little America, Wyoming. This truck stop has been proving professional drivers with a “welcome oasis” since 1952.

Jubitz Truck Stop, Portland, Oregon. This place has “almost everything you need or want,” according to user Rodger.

Dysart’s, Bangor, Maine. This place has “great food” and “is always clean” according to CDLLife app user Matthew.

The Tiger Truck Stop, Grosse Tete, Louisiana. Named after the tigers that the truck stop used to house, truckers now recommend the Tiger Truck Stop for its restaurant.

The Woodshed — Big Cabin, Oklahoma. User Tony writes, “They have people come and help you fuel and wash windows.”

Here's a link to a post about the "Oasis" in Robertsdale, AL. It's a great stop that I've enjoyed for years.

The Kylertown Kwik-Fill offers full service fueling, a great 24/7 restaurant, a motel that's clean and inexpensive.. get your room at the fuel desk, plenty of parking though the lot is gravel, and right by it is a grocery store, hardware store, post office, florist, and tux rental lol. Its right off I80 in Pennsylvania in Kylertown PA. I've taken both 10 hour breaks and a 34 hour reset there. Mostly frequented by O/Os. Extremely friendly folks and its QUIET!

I-94 at MM 88 in Osseo, WI, “The Osseo Truck Travel Plaza”. Good food for good prices and plenty of parking in the gravel lot. I-40 at MM 239 in Lebanon, TN, “Uncle Pete’s”. Great food for great prices. Parking lot is mostly paved with holes. Be careful!! I-40 at MM 221 in Wheatley, AR, “Sweet Pea’s”. Great food for a good price. Parking lot is gravel and has plenty of room to sit. I-15 at MM 82 in Yermo, CA, “Peggy Sue’s Diner”. Great food for decent prices. Small truck stop with only limited parking here I-75 at MM 251 in Grayling, MI, “Charlie’s Country Corner”. Good food here. Decent size place that always has parking spots... That’s 5 of my top ones. Tomorrow I’ll post 5 more I come up with.

Mine is the Wilton Travel Plaza in Gansevoort, NY. They have amazing food and it's right across the road from a target DC or right down the road from a Ace Hardware DC. I've been there a few time very friendly staff, great food and a big open lot. I've taking a 34 hour reset there twice.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

Not much in the way of any truckstops there. Next to 24 you have a rest area on the north side of the interstate and a little gas station with truck parking on the south side. There is a huddle house right there as well. The Harrah’s Casino has around 6 truck parking spot. You have to drive into town to go there. It is about 15 - 20 mins from the interstate.

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).
