Rolling Like A Tumbleweed

Well the other day I got a really nice load with 2700 miles on it headed from southwest New Mexico up into Northeast Connecticut. This is a regular run for me that I usually do about once a month. It's nice because I know the route, the places to stay and exactly how to get in and out at the shipper and receiver. This takes a lot of the variables out of the formula for a successful trip.

I've seen a lot of tumbleweeds rolling across the roads lately while I've been out west, and they change directions with the gusts of wind. I kind of felt like a tumbleweed when a wind came up and started me moving in a different direction yesterday. I had gotten my high value/high security load over to Tulsa Oklahoma when my dispatcher called me and said he had a driver that needed to get home to Connecticut, but was headed for San Diego California with a hot load. The driver was close to Claremore Oklahoma, and he wondered if I would be willing to swap loads with him. I took about a half a second to think about the terrible weather I was headed into up in Jersey, New York, and Connecticut, and compared that to the balmy conditions of San Diego right now and said "Yeah, I'll take it!"

I got to do my dispatcher a favor (which is always a good thing) got a fellow driver on his way home, and I'm gonna go to Southern California where I just might decide that it would be a good time to put in a 34 hour restart. Ah, sometimes it's a favorable wind that sets us in a different direction. I made it just over into Arizona tonight, and will continue westward tomorrow.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Old School, avoid Sacramento.. There's a bounty on your head in this area.

10-4, I'll be on the look-out for any "girly-man" trucks. I know I'm in trouble if I see one in my mirrors.

Oh, it's not my truck you'll have to worry about. I won't be in CA for awhile.

I'll say this, the cash reward for the capture of Old School on the Wanted Posters I put up was very generous. You'll have strangers bumping into your truck. We have a lot of crazy Russians in the area who need the extra cash. They'll get ya!

Oh man, this is starting to sound serious now - those darn Russians and their KGB style tactics of getting people. I'm going to have to rethink my trip planning, and maybe do some sort of disguise for my truck. I'll consult with central intelligence tonight and develop a strategy on how to deal with this looming crisis. I'll call it operation pink!

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Be right back, contacting the Russian Mafia to intercept your route. You've been just barely missing me for months now, our paths will cross soon I know it. Haha

Old school you were in my neck of the woods. Tuls is only about 45 min down the turnpike from me and Claremore is even closer than that.
