Ok, well, times FINALLY arrived to get my butt into a driving school seat ! Bit anxious too Either May 28th, or June 3rd, well I'm thinking why waste any more time, and take the 28th date!

The local WIOA ran out of funding last month or so, now they have it fixed, sort of. Which has kept me in a holding pattern

Seems this local school (Skyway) got on board thru the county to be training drivers Of course, they bumped up their rate for training of $2,000, to $5,000 ! Since county is footing the bill.....BUT, the county is only going to pay $3,500 from now on, so I was accepted at the school for $3500

Roadmasters has been trying to get it thru to accept me as well for that lower rate, but nothing yet. Too bad ,because I'd liked to drive for Werner, which I seen also hires from Skyway according to schools site..

I need to go with whoever comes thru first, and get 'r done! Don't really care from which school. Not used to being out of work and broke for so long ! Otherwise I would have just went with paid company training months ago.

Skyway only operates 5 days a week , from 8am-5pm and is just 6 or 7 miles from home. So it should be 4 weeks long....Their yards not very big graveled, they do have another yard few blocks away in the industrial area....Reviews weren't too good but hey I don't believe stuff til I see and experience it for myself.

Now, I was messaged from Covenant the other day, wanting me to go there, just like CRST ,,,no thanks to team driving.

And today May trucking called me today, after researching them, they could be a possibility too! Have to call the recruiter back and see, she mentioned in her voice mail I can get a pre-hire letter. Seeing they run 11 western and o.t.r, sounds tempting too.....Like to start out OTR , then go from there

So anyway, I need to call my case worker, and May trucking, and get full details etc and get this boat sailing! I do feel pretty confident, since my time here @ T.T has been so long, and a good learning experience, to keep my head screwed on straightin this industry.

I'm used to working lonnng hours, and some not even getting paid for, part of the job turning wrenches. Getting used to driving 10-12 hours will be next to get thru...Sleeping on a moving truck won't even be an issue lol

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

WIOA:

WIOA - Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (aka WIA)

Formerly known as the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), the WIOA was established in 1998 to prepare youth, adults and dislocated workers for entry and reentry into the workforce. WIOA training funds are designed to serve laid-off individuals, older youth and adults who are in need of training to enter or reenter the labor market. A lot of truck drivers get funding for their CDL training through WIOA.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Pre-hire:

What Exactly Is A Pre-Hire Letter?

Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.

A Pre-Hire Letter Is Not A Guarantee Of Employment

The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.

During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.

Always awesome, and exciting news Stevo. School will be a blast, and have heard good things about May. And heck you can always get your foot in the door with May and move on to Werner after a year. They're certainly not goinf anywhere anytime soon.
