We have the Smart drive system at Knight as well, no inward facing. I'm personally glad we have it. Something like over 84 percent of collisions we're found to be the fault of four wheelers, not the truck drivers. I usually keep my score under 25 which gives me an extra 100 per month safety bonus. (This month I didn't do so well, but I'll chalk it up to being in a loaner truck and not being as smooth as normal). If they did have an internal camera and want to record me, be prepared for some off key singing to Tool at loud volumes and me doing a whole lot of nothing exciting. Plus I video a lot of my backs and interesting tight roads and put them up on my YouTube channel anyway.
Hey Davy,
Nothing at all to solo rocking out to Tool. (I feel like I am in high school again.)
Anyway, what's your YouTube channel? Wait, let me check your profile. Really trying to make a habit of looking for information myself before just blurting out a question on a subject.
Yep, sure enough that good old YouTube channel of yours is right there. If I start spamming your videos with comments and likes... Just me showing some love.
Be safe out there,
Kerry

A CFI driver was saved by the company Dashcam in her truck.
The camera caught the pickup truck come from the left and swerve into her bumper. The pickup driver fell asleep at the wheel.
Our driver and company were saved by that camera.
I think it's crazy just how much drivers are against the cameras when it really can be a career-saver. I guess if a company has the booger picker camera on all the time, that would be a bit bothersome. But, like I have read from you and other sources, it's not like that at all. To me, it seems like CDI is absolutely doing it right.
Great information and insight.
Correction: CFI
It is also advised that you have your own dash cam. Some people have several.
Forward facing camera is fine and a great tool for just those kind of situations. An inward facing camera is a no-no in my book as it is truly an invasion of privacy. If you have met all the requirements for hire by a company you should not have to be watched by anyone.

What I was trying to say there is "Nothing at all wrong with rocking out to Tool solo." I don't think I realize how tired I am when I type out some of my responses. I read them some days later wondering what in the heck my brain was doing.

You don't believe that an activating event should warrant a view of what the driver was doing at that time? I don't know that it qualifies as an invasion of privacy since you have the sleeper blind to pull for the sleeper and since we are talking about company-owned trucks. It's not an invasion of privacy for a company to have cameras on their own property at a facility, so I find it hard to buy into the idea of a camera being an invasion of property on a company's truck. You are well within your right to refuse to drive for a company that has such cameras, but I think you are pushing it trying to claim that it's an invasion of privacy.
Company truck, doing company work, being paid company money... Invasion of privacy? That's really silly the more I think of it. But, that's your opinion. More power to you.
If you have met all the requirements for hire by a company you should not have to be watched by anyone.
Are you staying out of all public buildings and avoiding all city streets? Because every building you walk into has security cameras monitoring every move you make and everything you say. All major intersections and sidewalks have cameras on you at all times. You're also walking around with a phone in your pocket while the government monitors everywhere you go, everything you say, everything you buy, and who you come in close contact with. Not only do they see and hear everything live, but they store all this information permanently for future use.
I always find it odd that people get upset about being on camera while driving a big rig, probably the best use of a camera ever, and yet they'll freely spend the entire rest of their lives being monitored by cameras covering every inch of our society. They'll also walk around with a camera, microphone, GPS chip, and accelerometer in their pocket, knowing that the NSA monitors them continuously, but somehow they sleep well at night.
Baffling.

Strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. In other words, worry about the most trivial things while ignoring much more serious and concerning issues.
